How many auditors are there and how much do they earn?

Here is a well-founded overview of auditors and tax experts (fiduciary experts) in Switzerland - with current figures on their distribution, employment and income:

Number and distribution

EXPERTsuisse members include over 10,000 federally certified auditors, tax experts and fiduciary experts as well as around 800 companies managed by these experts (with approx. 20,000 employees). These members look after companies that together account for well over 2/3 of Swiss economic output.

According to Statista, a total of around 12,901 companies are active in the auditing, tax consulting and fiduciary sector, which together employ around 57,138 people (as of 2022).

The industry report business-monitor.ch lists 16,342 active fiduciary companies in Switzerland. The majority of these are very small companies: around 89% are micro companies (1-9 employees), while only around 9 % are small companies (10-49 employees).

Median and average wages

According to the WEKA Salary Study, the median salary for auditors in Switzerland is CHF 102,500, with a range between CHF 87,500 and CHF 130,000.

kununu states an average annual salary of CHF 125,100 (range: CHF 85,800 to CHF 203,400), as of July 2025.

Lohnanalyse.ch reports an average income of CHF 111,318, with typical peaks of up to CHF 196,000 and starting salaries of around CHF 100,000 per year.

Large auditing firms ("Big Four")

KPMG Switzerland: average salary around CHF 139,500, experienced professionals (10+ years) up to CHF 173,200 per year.

PwC Switzerland: average salary approx. CHF 128,300 per year.

EY Switzerland: average salary approx. CHF 117,000, with peaks of up to CHF 140,700.

Deloitte Switzerland: Ø salary approx. CHF 100,000, data basis small and with larger
